Island Bay Ranch is a sleepy little property in Newhaven, Phillip Island, just a 2 hour drive from the heart of Melbourne. It has a team of friendly staff, a gaggle of geese and great facilities. The resort itself has a handful of cabins, a pool and tennis court. But more importantly it has a lovely patch of fairly level green space suitable for a marquee. And by the way, if you wanted to land your chopper here from the heliport across the road, that’s fine too.

Marquee weddings at the best of times can be a challenge. The most important thing when considering a marquee wedding is to work with a great team of suppliers. There are a lot of nuances that come along with bespoke events in a marquee that only an experienced supplier will be able to guide you on. The thing I love about Island Bay Ranch is that they work with a regular marquee supplier who knows the space intimately and doesn’t really need too much input on the client with the obvious challenges. It also helps that they are fun to work with, very flexible, and have a great range of equipment that they can bring in at a moments notice, even if you’ve added it on the day before the wedding.
Access to the property is fantastic as you can drive right in to the event area, and this lends itself to food trucks, trailers and caravans. The accommodation is on the perimeter of the property and is adjoined by a common games room, meal area and kitchen. The kitchen isn’t commercial so this may impede the menu or caterers, but there is plenty of space for the catering team to bring in whatever kitchen equipment is necessary, and there is no need for a separate catering marquee as is often the case at marquee weddings.
