Having already dealt with the delays that shutdowns would bring, it was so nice to be a part of Claire and Andrews wedding. Styling a wedding at the beautiful Bathers Pavilion in Balmoral with all the challenges that COVID restrictions would bring definitely did not stop the bride and groom from shining on their day. The weather was kind, the sun was shining, and the ceremony on the terrace was the perfect place to stand at dusk, before their witnesses to take their vows.
Guests not mingling, not hugging, not greeting each other goes against every natural grain in our bodies. It was difficult watching guests arrive at the venue, to be told to take a seat while they all waited for the ceremony to commence. It however did not stop the smiles, banter and excitement from being out…let alone at a wedding. And such a small gathering of around thirty guests meant that they could all be seen and be present on the day.
Our brief from Claire was a very clean contemporary look with classic whites. Wanting to go against the grain a little, we framed the space with a small rug and two black plinths. The contrast was striking against the white florals full of lush magnolia foliage, white rose and phalaenopsis orchid. Pops of cherry blossom was added to define the space and give it height and interest.
The tables downstairs at Bathers Pavilion didn’t need much. Restaurant by day, the smaller tables meant that we didn’t have much space to play with. A few stunning stems in bud vases were perfect enough to allow the conversation to flow. And particularly important at this event, they weren’t a distraction for the guests and allowed everyone in the room to feel seen. Important given that it was a mingle free event.
It was so lovely being back at a venue, on an event. You only realise how much you really enjoy the adrenalin of producing a wedding, making everything looks so beautiful and watching the faces of your clients as they take it all in on the day. We have come a long way since August last year. Event world has changed. Some of it definitely for the better. #gratitude
