Located in the heart of Sydney’s Botanical Gardens, The Calyx is a stunning and versatile venue that allows you to create the space of your dreams. Transforming an empty exhibition space into an elegant party presents some challenges though. Which is why Alana and Emerson had brought us in to help with their wedding and help them with styling, producing and coordinating their wedding day.
One of the biggest challenges for us was bump in, a 4pm bump in time for an evening reception. Trying to bring the vision to life within a very short time frame is always a big production. Ensuring that everything was installed and positioned correctly on time as the visual experience of the wedding was essential. We filled the space with candles and stunning flowers with subtle tones of neutrals, caramels, and pinks. It was such a pleasure to not only work closely with Alana and Emerson but also with their lovely mothers to bring the space come to life.
While we were busy with a frantic reception set up, our guests were greeted by a stunning arbor of flowers and foliage at the ever-impressive gothic revival building of St Marks Darling Point, ready for the wedding ceremony to commence. Afterward, Alana and Emerson’s guests were treated to pre-wedding canapes as well as an Archie Rose gin cart at Farm Cove. The guest experience was super important to our couple and they sure did impress!
Once the sun began to set and the guests had warmed up with a glass or two of gin, everyone made their way up the hill to the Calyx. One of the key features we love at the venue is the island at the entrance. Although we knew it would be a push, we managed to install some large marquee letters with a floral installation and feature our musicians standing by to greet guests as they arrived. Our guests loved this space and used it as a fun backdrop for photos throughout the evening, including the stunning bridal party!
Weddings at The Calyx are stunning, however it’s always a huge undertaking to convert a blank canvas venue into the wedding of your dreams in a short amount of time. It’s certainly not a job for the faint hearted! There is something very special though about making a space your own, and it was indeed a magical space for Alana and Emerson.
