With as many weddings that we do, you’d imagine that remembering every single one would be a challenge. That the details are often lost and forgotten once the wedding is over. I can’t imagine that ever being true. At least for me. And the other day I had a beautiful flash back to a wonderfully vibrant wedding we coordinated a few years ago for Venetia and Conor at The Great Hall at the University of Sydney. From the grand and elegant atmosphere of this historic venue to the carefully selected details that reflected the couple’s personalities, every aspect of the day was filled with love and joy.
I love the challenge that a blank canvas venue brings. Bringing a space to life from the nothingness of an empty room, it’s a real sense of accomplishment and the transition always amazes me. Venetia and Conor had chosen the wonderfully gothic MacLaurin Hall for their ceremony and had brought us in to the event at the very last minute to help with On the Day Coordination. The venue’s high ceilings, and ornate details provided a breathtaking backdrop. And Venetia and Conor made sure there was no shortage of talented musicians to fill the space with some of the most beautiful sounds. Being a celebrant herself, Venetia wrote her own ceremony and the couple exchanged vows in front of their family and friends, with the Great Hall’s acoustics amplifying the emotional and heartfelt promises they made to each other.
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed an escort across the courtyard with a bagpiper at the helm. A cocktail and canape reception awaiting them in the courtyard outside the Great Hall. The perfect setting for guests to mingle, sip champagne, and take photos before it was time to take their seats for dinner. None of our guests would have noticed the mad scramble to put the finishing touches on the décor and floral work inside the Hall, or moving huge arbour arrangements from the ceremony space to the reception. Some things you never forget, and Cara from Trille floral was definitely getting her steps up that day.
When it was time for the reception, everyone moved inside to the Great Hall, which had been transformed into a stunning space dotted with pretty pops of colour and gold accents. Throughout the evening, it was such a delight to watch Venetia and Conor take in the company of their loved ones and friends who had come from near and far to celebrate their special day. The joy in the room – palpable, and it was evident that Venetia and Connor were meant to be together.
As the night drew to a close, Venetia and Connor’s wedding at The Great Hall at University of Sydney was a day that will be remembered. The stunning venue provided the perfect backdrop for their love story to unfold, and the carefully crafted details made every moment feel special and unique. From the romantic ceremony to the joyous reception, the day was filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. We were honoured to have been a part of their special day and wish Venetia and Connor all the best as they embark on this new journey together. May their love continue to blossom and their happiness never fade.
