It’s been a tricky few weeks here, damn you COVID-19. We’ve been dealing with the disappointment of cancelling events, rescheduling new dates and grappling with how best we manage the new normal, while life around us feels like it has changed almost overnight. What has been so refreshing is the amount of support from our little wedding community. Feedback from our clients and from suppliers has unanimously been one of reciprocal understanding and empathy.
There are silver linings though. And if we spend too much time focusing on what we can’t execute, we will have missed a bigger opportunity. How can we use this time to refine, to improve, to innovate and to support those businesses that we love so much around us? I don’t for a minute think that things will ever be the same. But would this be such a bad thing?
Events will be far from normal from now on. The end. But given the roll out of the social distancing regulations in a phased format as we’ve seen, we can only now plan for the same approach reversed as life returns to the new normal. For the event space, I can only imagine that without a vaccine, COVID-19 will continue to wreak havoc. Smaller events, less guests per square meter. And plenty of hand sanitiser, throw in a surgical mask for good measure. But we are an industry full of clever, creative people. We will find new ways to amaze our guests, to create incredible events and to continue to celebrate love.
Wedding planners by their very nature are used to crisis management. So we’ve taken the dial, and turned it up… a lot. Game face on and sleeves rolled up. I’m excited to see how we can collectively and creatively tackle what’s ahead of us. Getting married in these times will take a lot more planning and a bit of flexibility. But, so what? Let’s roll with it. Adversity reveals character. I’m ready. Are you?
