In an age where a conversation about same sex marriage is so divisive and given the industry we are in, there is something that we as a business need to be explicit on. If you are a same sex couple wanting to get married, we welcome you to join the Girl Friday Alumnus. We do not discriminate. We do not and will not work with any suppliers who do.
We have already had the joy of helping our sex couples join in commitment ceremonies and it has been an honour and a delight. And there have been times of disbelief and sadness when I have had to so carefully monitor our Facebook feeds for vitriolic commentary and diatribe upon publishing those events.
We are blessed and lucky enough to live in a free country. We should continue to strive toward the common standard of all people prescribed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It really is that simple.
No matter your gender, race, colour or sexual identity is – the colour of our blood is all the same. If you’ve ever lost anyone in your lifetime, you understand how very short life is. Wasting that precious time in hate, intolerance and denial of liberties to others does nothing but create toxicity within you. You lose. We are all humans, fallible ones at that. We are in no place to stand in judgement of others.
They were dark days when women were so blatantly treated as the inferior sex. Women weren’t allowed to vote, weren’t allowed to own property. They themselves were treated as chattels. How lucky we are, how lucky our country is, that there were many brave souls who fought to overcome this injustice. I am hopeful that the same sex marriage fight is no different. These are the days that will be recorded in history books as a time when our country took another step forward in equality, giving couples across our nation the same rights and protections that should have been awarded to them so long ago.
